Combining classroom and practical experiences, the early childhood education major offers the strong foundation you need to understand the developmental and educational needs of young children.
Towson University has been a leader in teacher preparation for 150 years, and its programs are recognized for their high quality and innovation. Our early childhood education major provides a strong academic foundation and real-world experiences that help beginning teachers understand how young children develop and learn. You’ll gain the knowledge, skills and dispositions you need to teach in the preschool and primary grades.
The Early Childhood Education program is a screened major. All applicants must meet specified, minimum requirements to be considered for admission, including:

The Early Childhood Education program is a screened major. All applicants must meet specified, minimum requirements to be considered for admission, including:
- have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have completed all prerequisite courses
- meet the Maryland State Department of Education Basic Skills Assessment Requirement
- meet with a program advisor, and submit a complete application with supporting documents by the specified deadline,
- attend a mandatory orientation session on the designated date
