Program Transfer Guide
St. Mary's College of Maryland

About the Program

St. Mary's College of Maryland encourages students to complete their Associate of Arts or Associate of Science prior to transferring to St. Mary's College of Maryland. Students who do not complete their Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree must complete the LEAD General Education package as listed below.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s Marine Science Program immerses students in the study of coastal ecosystems, oceanography, marine biology and environmental chemistry. With access to the St. Mary’s River and Chesapeake Bay, students gain real-world experience through research, fieldwork and state-of-the-art labs.

Note: Most courses at St. Mary's College of Maryland are worth 4 credits.  Students will only receive the amount of credits at St. Mary’s College of Maryland that they received at their Sending Institution. For example, if your previous college/university says Introduction to Psychology is worth 3 credits, you will only receive 3 credits for Introduction to Psychology at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. The transfer courses worth 3 credits will still be applied to meet specific course requirements within the SMCM majors.

Grand Total Credits
Completion of an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science at a public community college in Maryland is strongly recommended. Students transferring with an AA, AS, AAT, AFA, or ASE degree from a Maryland community college fulfill the LEAD Curriculum foreign language requirement as well as each of the six areas of the LEAD Exploration requirement. However, these students will still be required to complete LEAD301 (as a transfer student) or LEAD101 (as a first year student).
